1st of April, 2006 – interesting date for a farewell, aye? not just with it being the first of April, it seems pretty intriguing to see an important event like this being held a day and a half before back-to-back endsems days (as in consecutive days)
Be on Time…
… or so said the mail, promising to put IIIT Standard Time and Indian Standad Time back in synchronization with each other.did it work? i have no idea. like i said, a day and a half before the endsems with me having barely covered any syllabus is not really the perfect situation for me to start going on time to an event. i did go, of course, and stayed from 7 to 11 or something close to that. the dean had just begun his speech when i reached the ground. this was followed by reasonably long speech-ing sessions by Dr Mitra and Dr Sangal.
The Speeches
I cannot really understand why people have a tendancy to extend their speeches on and ON and OOON. for such occasions, wouldnt a much smaller speech with a hard-hitting message be a lot better? i mean, long speeches are given at nearly any and every function, right? wouldnt a short, simple speech be something that sticks to your mind when you think of the farewell? but then, im not the one passing out, am i? maybe they preferred longer speeches for a reason, i have no idea. what i DO know is that the crowd in my general area was not really excited by this prospect.
The Memento distribution…
… was a pretty dull event for the crowd, as always. pretty obvious, given that a hundred plus people have to walk onto stage when their name is called out, one by one. is there anything that could be done to spice it up for the farewell our batch will be giving next year? following this was the dinner, which basically involved a large group of people (incl me, of course) stuffing themselves till they had to puke.
The Food…
… was pretty good. but the general crowd discipline was bad. horrendous, in fact. especially near the ice cream table, with noone interested in either forming a line or sticking to one. disgusts me to see that these same people who push and shove each other, stick their plates over someone elses, body-block yet another guy, elbow a third, and then stand there asking the guy for one MORE scoop are to be the 'future' of the country. nice future its going to turn out to be. downright bloody disgusting, such behaviour.
and i thought i heard someone say that this was an 'elite' institute. one of the reasons mentioned was the general crowd was good. if this is how detestable the supposed 'elite' crowd behaves, im not quite sure how the 'other' people behave. which reminds me, was reading some article comparing china and india in quite a few areas, and while i dont remember the exact words, the general indian discipline was rated something close to 'horrid'. hmm…
The Informal Session
the highlight of the session, imho? KV, undoubtably. he put up an AWESOME show, with nearly all the imitations being fodu. the rest of the session? kinda boring. for me, atleast.

no comments till now!!! so here is one……
At least we could have had some music in the background!
And Anchoring ? Well .. what can I say ?
Crowd Control was obviously going to be a problem , I don’t understand what the organizers were thinking!
After having eaten the insipid mess food for 4 long months , are we expected to behave when there is free ice cream ?
I heard the caterers were from the ISB , is it true ?
oye!
remove that “no one interested anymore” from the link to our blog!
